vienna round three. i will be home tommorow. this is my last ever post in this livejournal. living like an orange peeled. | | Monday, June 27th, 2005 | | 11:38 am |
i havent written anything down in the last three days. illustrating the fact that i am no longer in introspective descriptive naturewriting tourist mode. but so london is fantastic. and i am going to scotland tommrow?! and if you know anything about how to get rid of really bad knots in a persons back then tell me please. | | Saturday, June 18th, 2005 | | 11:16 pm |
so i think that when i was in rome trying to use that computer with lots of spyware a virus somehow got into my email--is that possible? but so if you recieve any emails from me with huge attatchements (like 165k), with attatchments called data zip, or with the subject GOOD DAY erase them unopened and email me with the subject virus to tell me that my email sent it to you. I am really really sorry to anyone this is affecting. hopefully no one has opened that attatchment! amina | | Friday, June 10th, 2005 | | 8:51 pm |
so the computer that i am using at the squat where i am staying has massive amounts of spyware so i cant use my email. which is frustrating because i have as much computer access as i want. but no email. so heres what i wrote about rome today on public transportation. after saint peters and after tomato olive basil paste rolls and after my shoes wore a hole and after i thought i could live here. i mean i still think that, really: each clock says a different time. so it passes sporatically like menstrual cramps. like its a pain to learn the real time and realize how little is left. the evening light lasts for two hours. the sycamores have super powers. and michaelangelo today and mochaelangelo tommorow. and tonight hollow graffit ghosts riding trains in pieces and fills. the old old old things are gray. the old old things are red. the old things are white. and the new things are silver and red lips and pink and purple bubble letters. 2005. streets like creeks between the sheets like wrinkled cheeks and silence speaks. combinations of letters repeated unreadable unbelievably amenable. if i had email i would ask my parents to open my bank statement and tell me how much i have left in my account. Current Music: italian rap bc the squat is setting up a "ghetto blaster jam | | Tuesday, June 7th, 2005 | | 1:27 am |
i am in italy. i spent the night on a boat last night. got a ride from a greek trucker to a gas station. walked through an olive orchard, over fences, across train tracks. went out to dinner with up and coming italian popstar that is johns dads best friends son. now i am tiring his computer with missing home. i will arrive at Dulles airport on flight 925 on United airlines at 7:45 on July 11. see you there? between then and now i will: walk through more olive orchards be further impressed with european anarchists do an art project contemplate but probably not sort out the complicated mess that is my emotions towards living in america. towards LIVING anywhere really. | | Sunday, May 22nd, 2005 | | 5:52 pm |
hey i would really like to know what you all think about this g8 stuff. love amina. | | 1:44 pm |
hey so this is important: tell everyone you know about the g8 this july in scotland. tell them to come. tell them to read about it. tell them to tell people about it. it is a week of protest and alternatives to the death trap that is corporate globalization. its gonna be the real deal. heres the situation: for the last 4 maybe 5 years an awesome movement is gathering legit force all around europe. combining ideas from all of the crazy divisions and ideologies that make up the modern anachist movement, people are creating LIBERATED SPACES. community/social centers where anybody can come create their own alternatives. to education, to economic structures, to the UNreprestentative decisions rich people make about our lives. these spaces manifest as cooperatively run bars and cafes, as free libraries, as resources centers, film screening/concert spaces, childcare centers, community gardens, commnity kitchens... so this year in scotland the DISSENT network plus a bunch of other rad groups from all over europe are creating a seriously multifacitated attack on the system that brings these spaces to the center of our movement. for the month of june and into july, people from all over the world will be occupying buildings, planting gardens, celebrating radical culture while working to create a gigantic network that links all the amazing things that are happening in basements, bars, abandoned buildings everywhere. there will be a bunch of community events that are about fighting the isolationist tendency and sharing ideas and spaces with the PEOPLE who live in edinburgh and glasgow. refugee and worker solidarity in the form of protests and demos and walking tours. as well as direct action against climate change and the g8 itself. its going to be so amazing. and talking about it takes it places. this is really a coherent movement that we are only just getting a whiff of in the states. it is the opportunity for so much learning between people from EVERYWHERE. i hope i explained this so it makes sense. i am in greece. i have to get off the computer! | | Saturday, May 7th, 2005 | | 9:00 am |

ok so im in Bangkok again. first we went to Chiang Mai. Saw amazing temples and big hazy mountaintops and hung out with monks and played them a song. we took sweaty busrides and rode a motor cycle in Mae Sai. Climbed a mountain, explored km long caves, had a waterfight with little boys. Ate stawberries from a roadside stand at a circular elephant temple facing cliffs. Got kicked out of the place we were staying becasue because we smelled bad, "different life styles" i guess. went to phuket. wrote songs under fans drank mango smoothies swam at the beach and the sun set red. started voluneering for the red cross. built a house for mushrooms and watched them grow like weeds, half a kilo a day or somehing. miscommunicaed with thai people, planted cashew tree seedlings, ate cashews we picked and dug holes. learned about children and mothers and more god stuff--does it wver end? ate at crowded restaurants with unlikely friends, felt like i knew alot about permaculture, felt like i knew nothing about thai culture. missed home, got excited about india, painted a little picture--the first in ages. walked through burned fields of salty sand washed tiles and broken glass watched a man play with his son who, when the wave came, he grabbed in his arms and outran it. heres somehting: the cows wont come home, the sand's there where you cried and the sounds bound to float it seems like we could die in this tide glowing and dirty (always) and ready for the next part. i wont be using the computer in india. im going to see my cousin matt tonight! love | | Friday, March 11th, 2005 | | 8:19 pm |

Sydney is so cool. we are at the illist squat called Iceland. Its in this really nice neighborhood directly ont eh water. It used to be some kind of arts or rec center so theres tons of windows and at night, like right now, i can see all the lights of the city. today we went to some art galleries and walked through the botanic gardens. there was this one tree that was COVERED in flying fox fruit bats! they are gigantic. ben was right, they do eat figs...but there werent any figs for us to eat. we also stayed in this town called Wollongong with the nicest punk kids. they have a really cool close knit community and they recently did a workshop on comunity response to sexual assault. they had a group of 50 people, men and women acting out scenarios and coming up with preventative ideas as well as structures for future incidents. it was prettyinspiring. and so basic. hey! in wollongong we also had a giant pizza party and a pancake party the next morning! and we went for an awesome bike ride along the beach. plants in australia are so cool. there are a couple hundred varieties of eucalyptus trees and they are divided into paper bark, iron bark and string? bark. i wish i oculd stay here for alot longer and my foot would be better so i could go hiking and learn about all the crazy australian plants that developed isolated fromteh rest of the world. we also went to the sydney opera house today. like ben said, number one most not over-rated tourist attraction. and we talked about how it might or might not have happened minus capitalism. tommorow we are goign to the beach! then mardi gras? then ben is leaving the next day. holy crap! now we are listening to the blow! show i would most liek to have at my house: the blow, japanther, crimpshrine (thanks for all the tapes david c) bens: wu tang clan with odb (r.i.p.), propaghandi, charles bronson coming soon! pictures of me and ben's date to the mock meat restaurant, courtesy of jesus christ (who told this preacher guy that we met to give us twenty bucks. so he did) | | Monday, February 21st, 2005 | | 1:31 pm |
hey so i am in wellington and it is awesome. our friend simon runs this cool space called The Cake Shop with internet and coffee and cool kids hangin out all the time. tonight we are playing a show here. we made tofu banana peach pie and oatmeal cookies and little tapes with amina althea cover songs (greenday, phish, and saves the day) on one side and ben fresh origionals on teh other side. It looks really nice and is the first Rumphius Recordings release, a project me and ben thought of on this trip. Hopefully people will buy it and we can eat some vegan cookies! tommrow we are going to auckland. we have four days to hitch up and then take the plane to sydney. Thanks to sasha from dc we have tons of awesome contacts that are super friendly so that should be great! ok! | | Wednesday, February 16th, 2005 | | 9:56 pm |

here is ben in a garden in christchurch. this was like day 3 of our adventures on the south island of NZ this is my disgustingly dirty feet on day 5 in Dunedin. we slept at this guys house with 41 rabbits. we also hung out with awesome Maori kids and went to the Cadbury Chocolate Factroy and climbed the world's steepest street this is me in front of a huge glacier on the west coast of the island on day 9. those are crutches i am holding because i broke my foot skateboarding. i dont really know how to skateboard. because of the foot, (it is fractured, not displaced and my newfound interest in Christian Science tells me it will be cured in the next few days as long as i keep thinking positively--dont worry, i'm not a christian) we are back in Wellington early. we are going to help some friends paint monsters on traffic lights for their shop and make a split tape and play a show. then we are going to Sydney on the 25th. | | Saturday, February 5th, 2005 | | 5:32 pm |

so it's been awhile iguess. traveling with Ben is so much fun and New Zealand is incredible. We started our trip on an island near Auckland staying with his uncle. we drank coffee and ate plums and walked to small beaches. then we went to the farm summarily: there were 2 billion smelly poopy loud at 4 in the morning chickens i learned about permaculture design and companion planting the woman that ran the farm was kinda hard to get along with i planted radishes and beans and broccoli and ate flowers i felt a general sense of capability like i can use little tools to make frames and whittle with a pocket knife and I know how deep to plant seeds so thats exciting me and ben listen to the same tapes over and over. mostly Crimpshrine, THE Max Levine Ensemble, Dillinger Four, Green Day, and this thrash tape. so then our hitching adventures began. basically we have met all these people who are completely different from us and have incredible conversations usually ending in "so, do you need a place to stay?". We have therefore slept in the most unlikely like this super christian kid's rich parents' farm house with lace pillows. We sat at a beach for six hours just looking at it and saw boiling pools of mud like the Never Ending Story. Ok, So 900 miles and 11 miles and now we're in Wellington staying with Ben's family friends. Tomorrow we're going to Food Not Bombs. There is a cool infoshop called the cake shop and this town is pretty sweet. wea re going to go to the public library and read about the history and stuff. becasue it is so interestinng. if you have time you should read about the history too. I don't really know how long we'll be here but eventually we're going to the south island to see glaciers and penguins. SO that's that. I don't know when I'll post again, but in the mean time HaVE FUN! hey so i dictated this to ben because he says he types faster than me. hence the wierd differences like how he capitalizes the begginings of his sentences. | | Friday, January 14th, 2005 | | 2:49 pm |
